Big idea
Students develop understandings of and respect for Torres Strait Islander culture and language and their management of the issue of ghost net environmental damage as they explore and are inspired by ghost net art.

Program overview
The Ghost Net Busters incursion focuses on art as a means of investigating more sustainable ways of managing resource use and waste and as a means of communicating ideas on the topic. Students are invited on the quest by two ghost net art characters who help them:
- explore Torres Strait Islander ghost net art to learn about the environmental impact of ghost nets and how Torres Strait Islanders are addressing the issue
- examine their own use of and disposal of resources and actions to more sustainably manage resources/waste and care for places
- learn about Torrest Strait Islander culture and some everyday language
- explore art elements and practices used in ghost net art
- plan and make art, by recycling waste materials, to communicate a message about a resource/waste issue relevant to them
- evaluate their artwork.
Students' artwork and messages can be celebrated and shared with the wider community through assembly or parade, display at a school entry or administration office digital display, school newsletter or the local newspaper.
